Applying for LA Medicaid
Healthy Louisiana, formerly Bayou Health, is the way most of Louisiana's Medicaid and LaCHIP recipients receive health care services. The goal is to encourage enrollees to take charge of their own health and the health of their families. It is a message of empowerment that seeks to motivate Louisianans to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
First, you need to apply for LA Medicaid or LaCHIP
There are several easy ways to apply. You can:
- Apply online.
- Contact an Application Center near you to apply in person.
- Call 1-888-342-6207, TTY 1-800-220-5404 and speak to a representative.
If you have any questions about whether you are eligible, please call the Medicaid Hotline at 1-888-342-6207; Baton Rouge Area call 225-342-0555.
After you apply for Medicaid, you should get a decision within 45 days (with some exceptions). Your coverage can start as far back as 3 months before the month you apply, if you meet all eligibility factors.
Your application will be reviewed for all Medicaid programs. If you are eligible for a program with more benefits, you will be put into that program. When you are found eligible for Medicaid, you will get a letter from Medicaid.
