What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a new coronavirus strain, which causes respiratory illness.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

People with heart and lung disease or weakened immune systems, as well as infants and older adults, are at higher risk for upper and lower respiratory tract illness.

How can you protect yourself or others from COVID-19?

Although there are currently no vaccines available to protect against human coronavirus infection, you may be able to reduce your risk of infection by washing your hands often, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

If you have cold-like symptoms, please remain at home while you are sick. Additionally, follow all state and local government restrictions and recommendations.

How can I access COVID-19 testing?

Patients who have concerns that they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or may have symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their doctor the tests will likely be nasal swabs that are then sent to a laboratory. Call member services at 1-855-242-0842 to find a doctor near you.

Supporting Members

Effective immediately, Aetna Better Health of Louisiana members will have access to the following resources:

  • There will be no restrictions/payment or prior authorization required for testing for COVID-19.
  • Your doctor may call and evaluate and treat over the phone you, so you don’t have to go to the office.
  • Members may receive up to a 90-day quantity of supplies related to incontinence, diabetes, tracheostomy care, wound care, home dialysis, feeding supplies, apnea/breathing monitors, other respiratory supplies, home oxygen, electric breast pumps, pulse oximeters and probes and tape, and IV therapy.
  • Your case manager will call or use video services to help you. Your care manager will not come into your home or visit you in a hospital or nursing home.

Through existing care management programs, Aetna Better Health will proactively reach out to members most at-risk for COVID-19. Care managers will walk members through what they can do to protect themselves, where to get information on the virus, and where to go to get tested.
