Managed Long Term Services and Supports

In October 2012, New Jersey received federal approval under a 1115 (a) demonstration waiver from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the Comprehensive Medicaid Waiver. New Jersey's application included a new and better way to help seniors and individuals with disabilities live at home for as long as possible. Called the Managed Long Term Services and Supports program or MLTSS, the program uses managed care organizations to coordinate support services according to a participant's needs.

Through MLTSS, participants will receive their primary, acute, behavioral and long term care needs through a managed care plan. Previously, these services were coordinated by an agency other than a managed care organization.
